Brazil exported a record 27.1 mln T soy 09/10: Industry

Brazil exported a record 27.1 million tonnes of soybeans in the current season which runs from February 2009 to January 2010, according to the Brazilian Association of Vegetable Oil Industries (Abiove) released on Friday.

The lower than expected harvest in Argentina, the world's third largest producer of soybeans, due to a drought and strong Chinese demand are the main causes of record shipments of Brazilian soybeans this year, analysts said.

The association raised its September forecast for exports of soybeans compared to August, when it was estimated a figure of 26.2 million tonnes.

At the same time, the agency reduced the estimated soybean mill to 30.2 million tonnes this season, before the planned 30.9 million last month.

Last season, Brazil exported 24.51 million tons, according to Abiove, and internal processes 31.9 million tons.

Abiove not changed its forecast of the Brazilian grain harvest of soybeans, estimated at 57.3 million tonnes compared to 59.9 million tonnes last season.
